Sapphires were chosen, quite often for engagement rings. This yellow gold blue sapphire and diamond ring is a classic example of a Romantic period ring. 

More importantly, this sapphire is a beautiful Ceylon blue. Surely this stone was found in the exotic waters of Sri Lanka, off the coast of India! The old cut diamonds have an approximate total weight of 1.29 ct.
